In the shaft graves, the buried were usually buried on their backs, and sometimes in multiples. Often, when new corpses would enter the graves, bodies previously buried would be moved to a pile. This would not happen, however, in graves of a higher social class. The items found in the graves, the grave goods, that surrounded the bodies would signify their social standing. Grave Circles A and B were excavated and several tombs were found. These tombs would have a number of items inside including masks, pottery, weaponry, stone vases, and many other religious and valuable items. There was certainly a relationship between the burial customs and social hierarchy. Grave circles were believed to be of the regional chiefs.
